Open Face Sandwich

This sandwich is made using only one side of bread. As you can see all the toppings it looks very colorful and tempting. The added advantage is kids eat less bread and more veggies. It needs very few ingredients but they satisfy all the taste buds in every bite. The onions are caramelized in vinegar so they have sweet and tangy taste. Red pepper flakes adds hot taste. This sandwich is our all time favorite.

  • 2 Tbsp Plain Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • A Bunch of Basil Leaves
  • 1 Cup Processed Cheese (Grated)

  • Julian onions. In a frying pan mix onion, vinegar, sugar, salt and caramelized onion over a medium heat stirring continuously. It will take around 10 minutes.
  • Cut the baguette in the middle.
  • Remove the seeds from the tomatoes and chop them into small pieces.
  • Grate the cheese.
  • Apply butter to the cut side of the baguette. Heat it on a pan till the side gets crispy.
  • Remove the baguette from the pan. Put basil leaves, caramelized onions, tomatoes, red pepper flakes and grated cheese.
  • Put some butter on the heated pan and immediately put the prepared sandwich. Heat it till the cheese is melted.

Notes

Julian means cutting the vegetable or fruit vertically in thin stripes.
I have added red pepper flakes. Instead freshly cracked black pepper can also be used.
I have removed all the seeds from the tomatoes. This way the tomatoes do not make the sandwich soggy.
The sandwich tastes good on a baguette. You can use white slice bread instead if you don’t have a baguette.
