Eggless Sooji Cake
I tried this sooji (semolina) cake at one of my friend’s house. I loved it !! She cooks it on a tava (griddle). As I do not have a baking pan which can be used on a tava, I have created a recipe which uses an oven instead. This cake tastes yummy and you can create all sorts of variations by using pineapple or rose essence.
Ingredients:
Eggless Sooji Cake
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Coarse Sooji (Semolina)
- 3/4th Cup Granulated Sugar
- 3/4th Cup Plain White Yogurt
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Essence
- A Pinch Of Salt
Instructions
- Mix Sooji (Semolina), sugar, yogurt and milk. Keep it for 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 180 C.
- Add baking powder, baking soda, vanilla essence, clarified butter (Ghee) and salt. Mix till all ingredients are combined.
- Line the baking pan with butter paper and pour the mixture. Tap the pan a couple of times to remove air pockets.
- Bake it for 35-40 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean.
Notes
I have used room temperature butter so that it will gets mixed very well. Use butter paper in the pan. It helps to remove the cake without breaking it.
