Raw Mango Panha

This drink is a specialty of konkan region of Maharashtra State. Konkan region has a rich history of mangoes. Every year we enjoy a variety of mangoes grown in Konkan. Our ancestral home is also situated there. I am very fortunate to learn some local dishes from my maternal and paternal grandmother. This drink is made during summer time. It is also a healthy substitute to the surgery drinks.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 Cup Raw Mango Pulp (Cooked)
  • 3 Cup Grated Jaggery
  • 3 Tsp Cardamom Powder

Instructions
 

  • Peel 2 (1 kg.) raw mangoes. Add about 1 cup of water and cook it in the pressure cooker (3 Whistles). 
  • Let it cool.
  • Remove the pulp.
  • In a blender add pulp, jaggery and blend it together.
  • Mix cardamom powder.
  • Keep the mixture in an air tight container in the refrigerator. This is a base for the drink.
  • Take about 3 tbsp pulp in the glass and add about 200 ml of water. Mix well and serve. It tastes good when served chilled. This recipe can be prepared as per your liking. You can add water or pulp as you like.
