Sol Kadhi

Sol kadhi is a popular dish of Goa and konkan region of Maharashtra. It has a refreshing sweet and sour taste. It is prepared with kokam and coconut milk. It has digestive and anti-acidic properties which helps in washing down spicy food. It also goes well with plain white rice.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 Ml Coconut Milk
  • 5-6 Kokam
  • 7-8 Garlic Cloves
  • 2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Tbsp Clarified Butter
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Green Chilies
  • 1/4th Tsp Asafoetida
  • 4 Tsp Sugar
  • Salt

Method
 

  1. Soak kokam in 1/2 cup water for 2 hours.
  2. Crush garlic cloves. Cut green chilies.
  3. In a pot heat clarified butter.
  4. Add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds starts to sputter add asafoetida, cut green chilies and crushed garlic.
  5. Fry it on low heat for about 1 minute.
  6. Add soaked kokam along with water.
  7. Let it boil for about a minute.
  8. Add coconut milk, salt and sugar.
  9. Let the sol kadhi boil for 10 minutes on low heat.

Notes

I have used store bought coconut milk. 
Kokam has a sour taste. Adjust the sugar according to your liking.The kadhi should have sweet and sour taste.
