Tikhat shira
Tikhat Shira prepared with sooji (semolina) is a common Maharashtrian breakfast dish which is easy to make and can be prepared quickly.

- 1 Cup Coarse Sooji (Semolina)
- 2 Medium Onion (1 1/2 cup chopped)
- 2-3 Green Chillis
- 2 Tbsp Freshly Grated Coconut
- 2 Stalk Curry Leaves
- 3 Tbsp Oil
- 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/4th Tsp Asafoetida
- 3 Cup Water
- Fresh Coriander Leaves
- Salt
Instructions
- Heat the pan. Roast the sooji on a medium flame till golden brown. Keep it aside.
- Chop the onions. Cut green chillis into 2-3 pieces.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds starts to sputter, add turmeric powder , asafoetida, curry leaves, cut green chillis.
- Add chopped onions.
- Add 1/2 cup of water and cover it with lid and let the onions cook.
- In a separate pan boil remaining 2 1/2 cup water.
- Add it to the cooked onions. Add coconut.
- Add the roasted sooji. Mix it and cover it with the lid. Let it cook for 5 minutes on medium heat till all the water is absorbed in the sooji.
- Turn off the burner and let it stay covered for another 5-10 minutes.
- Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it.
Notes
You can also add green peas and cashews.
