Shepu (Dill) Chi Bhaji

Shepu (Dill) is usually used as an herb in western cuisine, however it is used as a main ingredient in this simple recipe. Garlic balances sharp taste of dill and yellow moong dal gives some crunch to this recipe. It can be served with chapati/Bhakri.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Cup Chopped Shepu (Dill)
  • 1/4th Cup Yellow Moong Dal
  • 12 Garlic Cloves
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1/4th Tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 Cup Water
  • Salt

Method
 

  1. Soak the moong dal in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Chop garlic.
  3. In a pot heat oil. Add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds starts to sputter, add turmeric powder, asafoetida, red chili powder and chopped garlic.
  4. Add soaked yellow moong dal and water. Cover the pot with lid and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add chopped dill and water. Mix it well, cover it with lid and let it cook till the dill is fully cooked.
